History is what makes Belleair special. It is home to the first golf course in Florida. It also happens to be 30-40 feet above sea level and is noted as the highest point in Florida. A major part of the area is out of the Florida Flood zones! This makes the area extremely builder friendly, for new construction. There is still opportunity to have a home on the water, on select streets, with intercoastal views and boat access.
There is so much history here! The beautiful Bellview Biltmore Hotel and Resort, was built in 1897 by railroad tycoon Henry B. Plant. It has been host to world leaders, dignitaries and celebrities, arriving from New York by rail. Regular guests included, Mickey Mantle, Joe Dimaggio and Marilynn Monroe. This magnificent building, is the largest wooden structures in North America and is listed on the US National Register of Historic Places, as one of the top 10 most endangered buildings. Recently however, it was purchased and will be fully restored to become a 5-star hotel again.
